I read The Dunwich Horror recently, that story freaks me the f right out. I need to read more of his stuff.
Shirly Jackson's 'the lottery' is one of Stephen King's favorites. Muy creepy.

More on the fun side, Stephen King's short story 'the ten oclock people' is a fantastic lil story and it pairs so well with John Carpenter's film 'They Live.' Def great read and watch, you get some comedy and some drama and some funkiness.

I'm going off on another 'vision quest' as IndelibleDotInk put it. Leaving tomorrow morning and coming back Sunday.

It's supposed to start raining tomorrow night through Saturday morning, which is fine, I love rain. And I have a plan.

I'm going to park in the forest, set up my van for the night and lay in bed and read The Haunting of Hill House. All by myself.

In the dark. In the night.

I watched the old "The Haunting of Hill House" on your recommendation it was pretty good. Classic horror is like comfort food, it makes me feel like reading horror in front of a fireplace on a dark and windy night . This week saw "American Werewolf in London" for the first time , which , blew my mind it is so good . And the original "Wicker man" ALSO so good it blew my mind , These are good films way beyond their genre. And then I saw the 1962 "Burn Witch , Burn " Which could only have been better if everyone burned except the witch , - close enough though . I am in love with film of every genre and these three horror films I saw this week are in my top 100 films you should see before you get killed by a witch.

When I was a tree planter I had a 68 dodge van outfitted out with a mattress and shelves for cooking and storage. I lived in it from February to Augest every year for 3 or 4 years. It was funny because it was two different colors of rust and we spray painted "Rust Never Sleeps" on the side of it with orange forest service tree marking paint. and senior citizens who didnt know anything about Crazy Horse would honk at us and cheer . I drove that thing all over the PNW, - from Gold Beach to Missoula . , I remember the year that I worked out of Eugene I drove up to the Olympic Peninsula and hung out at some hot springs kicking dope for 4 days before I went to another job in Cle Elum . I remember because I was riding back on the ferry feeling like shit and I heard on the radio about Courtney love murdering Curt Cobain : (. It makes me feel nostalgic thinking about running up a dirt road and sleeping in the woods. Thats a pretty good life

Here is my letterboxd if anyone wants to see the movies I've been watching lately .. https://letterboxd.com/liberhabanero/

If you hear creaking and perhaps something brushing against the top of your car every so often, when the police come to get you in the morning, don't look back - it's your boyfriend's body hanging from a tree, it was his feet swaying against the roof of your car!!!!!!!

I have so many good stories about all that - We hung out in Rosyln a lot because it was closer to our campsite.. I was 18 and one of the girls on our crew was 17 . We would go into the bar across the street from the Rosyln cafe and they looked at how tired and dirty we were and never asked for an I.D. once. I came from a mormon town with no bars so I had no idea that I wasn't supposed to be drinking because the only places I went into were backwoods places that didn't care. Pierce, ID off of hw12 had to be one of the most lawless places in America in the early 90's.

There's a parasite here in Hawaii called 'rat lungworm' and is spread mainly via slugs or snails accidentally eaten in lettuce or other produce, or from drinking out of a gardening hose with slug slime in it. At least one person got it by purposely eating a slug on a dare. The worms are most often found in rats where they collect in the lungs and grow to the adult stage, hence the name. In people, the young stage is often only detectable with a spinal tap, and only after a host of ambiguous symptoms occur. Then the worms go to the brain and feast. We are told to wash our produce, but really, if not cooked, they are still dangerous. It unsettles me cause I like fresh veggies.

That is HORRIFYING omg! I like fresh fruit and veg too and honestly I'm pretty lazy about scrubbing it, most things get a quick rinse under the faucet and that's it. I'm going to remember this post next time I bring fresh stuff home from the store, lol

I have a bunch of things to get ready for work tomorrow , but I just discovered that John Phillip wrote the grateful dead's "me and my uncle " and now I have 10 tabs open to get to the bottom of this this.

Back in the day I hated the grateful dead , as any self respecting NoMeansNo fan would . And, The mama's and the papa's were my moms favorite record - mom rock , thats not cool . But as time has gone on I have become interested in both bands. Maybe related to the fact that my Deadhead friend killed himself in 2012 and then my mom died of a heart attack 5 years later. I like listening to the music they like .\

The story is that John Philips wrote it one night and was so drunk that he didn't remember , until he started getting royalty checks for the song from Judy collins. He called her to tell her it wasn't his song and she said " yeah it is , I recorded it on a tape on tequila night"
there's a John Phillips version, a Judy Collins version , I was about to give Joni Mitchel the top spot until I discovered Dino Valente , stage name for Chet Powers , from Quicksilver Messenger Service .

I didn't get into the Grateful Dead until about 1978 and then I went all out batshit. Went to a record store up in the U district in Seattle and bought every single album they had because I didn't have any up to that point. And then I saw them three times in concert before Jerry Garcia died.

Luc Besson's Angel-A is in black and white, and like in most of his films, the female is a force to be reckoned with. It shares with the Sin City films a fantastical element.

Off the top of my head, while not black and white films, Killing Zoe, and Thursday, are very offbeat, very violent, and with neat dialogue. Paulina Porizkova's performance as the wackest gun toting female you'd ever want to meet was an unforgettable part of Thursday.

Do you still have all your records?

I'm not old enough to have anything more than some crappy CDs that don't even match my current music interests anyway. And CD players were already old tech by the time I got a hold of one. As a teenager I had an MP3 player and the ability to download any music I want for free (Arrrrr matey)

The idea of needing to buy all of an artists music to hear it is so alien to me. I usually just buy merchandise when I really like an artist. Still waiting for internet to kill the music industry like people said it would when Napster and Limewire were big.

Babel the Angel-A was a good movie, to remind us all to speak the truth, as soon as we try to hide things and not be honest with our selfs, thats when everything starts to go down the hill. thanks for the recommendation.

OH MY GOD THEY HAD AN EPISODE ON RAT LUNGWORM. IT'S THE EPISODE CALLED, 'SOMETHING IS EATING MY LUNGS'!!!

I can't recall, but it might have been in two episodes because in another, a baby got it and the parasitic infection hit his brain. I don't think the end went well.

I am so sorry. I was on managed Medicaid and my coverage was rad. Then I HAD to be switched to Medicare for Disability and each doctor visit drains my pockets and my last filled prescription was a whopping 66$. I am on a total of 8 prescriptions, so needless to say, I've thought about becoming the world's worst hooker to supplement the bonkers cost of copays.

However, I am surely hoping that your coverage turns out better. Social Security just signed me up for Medicare on their own, and my crappy healthcare plan involved a phone call with an agent...it is United Healthcare with Medicare and it blows a bag of bees. Good luck to you. Kratom through it!

Yup, the grossness of brain eating parasites, wish they could initiate a narcoleptic state of beauty rest instead of just killing the host.

You've been quiet lately, wondering what happened.

PS... try Bree's premium red super, he's got kilos 25% off til Sunday. Best hitting red so far. Had to ask if he'd spiked it with extract, and nope, it just lives up to the super part. Aloha.

I can't recall, but it might have been in two episodes because in another, a baby got it and the parasitic infection hit his brain. I don't think the end went well.

(PS: we should do a little trade soon!)

Aloha.
I am aghast that people are essentially giving themselves a parasitic infection that has no cure. ONE THAT EATS THE BRAIN. I thought the tide pod challenge was obscenely dumb, kind of like the self-strangulation one. But no. Parasitic infections are hard to diagnose because it literally hides from a CT scan! There is no treatment, only maintenance until a certain death. Do you know this has also been found in Louisiana? No where near near like the Island. But. The Monsters Inside Me has opened my eyes to the wonderful world of parasites.

Indeed, I have been quiet. I have had some recent financial setbacks and obviously can't by kratom, but this whole WHO potential kratom ban has me obsessed with stocking up. I'm trying to produce more bandanas for my Etsy, since they sell reasonably well & I have my fingers crossed. This has been complicated my health crap, which was triggered by the Vaccine. Don't get me wrong, I love that Vaccine and I am proud. But unfortunately, I'm immunocompromised, it is hitting me hard. My immune system is giving it all it has, but it's a shitty immune system and it is taking me longer to get past the original symptoms you'd get from the vaccine. It also raises the bar on chronic pain. Sorry for the novel-esque response but I have been too exhausted to even sign in, and when I do, I feel a little bummed I can't order anything. I mean, TFH brought back Wild Crafted Rocket Red from 4/20 as their blast from the past 100g available bags! That lingers. I will check out Brees since I like to hear recs from you and know it's going to be good. I will figure out how!
