Someone I know just had a seizure and as far as we're aware the only thing he took was kratom. He's had one seizure about a year ago from drugs but now he doesn't do drugs. Will they test at the hospital for kratom and attribute that to the seizure?

So... "History of having seizures", he's possibly epileptic or has some pre-disposition to seizures.

I was more worried about them testing for kratom because you already know they'll say it caused it

If your friend says nothing about kratom, it won't be tested for -- there is a test for it, but it's expensive and has to be specifically requested, even if they're doing a drug screen. A doc isn't going to be thinking about or testing for kratom if your friend keeps his mouth shut.

What was the drug that caused his seizure a year ago? They won't test for kratom at the hospital unless your friend brings it up.

Hope your friend feels better soon, and that they can get to the bottom of what's causing this. My sister's ex used to have seizures and he was able to control it with medicine.

It was cocaine and adderal. But we got everything figured out. The most recent one was from lack of sleep and dehydration. As well as energy drinks. I think he might be prone to seizures now.

That makes sense. There is a definite link between both substances and seizures; at one point there was even a lawsuit in regard to Adderal causing seizures. If they damaged his brain in some way that hasn't healed yet, he might have to be careful with all stimulants, like energy drinks, until/unless it does. If that's so it kinda pisses me off for him, actually: he got clean only to find out that sobriety isn't enough. It's a hard road to walk. Glad you all got it figured out and he's feeling better though.

Maybe your friend should go with the less stimulating strains, slower ones, given that his first seizure was from Cocaine and Aderall, etc. I take Aderall for adult ADHD and admittedly drink a Red Bull here and there. As far as Kratom goes, I cannot take very stimulating green and white strains or I might have a panic attack. I take reds, golds, some yellow for analgesic purposes, and they both help with my chronic pain and they take the edge off the Aderall.

I can tell when I can open someone’s mind and when they will get all shrill and hysterical about big, bad Kratom.

The most important thing is finding out what causes your friends’ seizures. BTW, they can be caused by Wellbutrin for some. Good luck!

Interesting. I have a friend who's found himself in the emergency room several times for seizures brought on by combined sleep deprivation and dehydration. Coffee exacerbates the condition, but he has to be specifically rigorous about his sleep schedule. (Other than nicotine gum he's otherwise substance-free.)

He didn't say anything about it, and ive told my primary doctor about it and she said to be careful. She seemed to be open to it and she told me to keep her updated on how it works for me.
