What types of work did you do,through the year

Post by Oletimer »

I worked a variety of jobs over about 50 years, mostly heavy factory work, assembly, which is how I ended up all the back problems I have now,,I did work 5 years as a nurses aid in a hospital in CVICU unit,,STRESS, ,easy work but too much heart drama,,and the most boring job was at a pharmaceutical packaging facility,,I experienced 1st hand how all the pharmaceutical pills were handled and packaged,,unbelievable, ,my last job was building huge coils for military ships and submarines, 13 years of laboring back breaking work,,and me and 9 others were laid off from Downsizing,,,funny how we were all 55 and older,,,,I lost my job that year,,lost my home,,repoed,,,my old family home got wiped out by a tornado, and my doctor of 15 years retired,,so yeah, I was overwhelmed, ,that was a lot of changes in a 7 month period,, when I look back at it now,I am actually grateful, ,the job itself was going to kill me,or the dr,,I was on so many pain meds, etc. Anyhow a lot of us older folks have been through the ringer with factory work,,they use you up until they suck ya dry,,so you younger folks,,don't overdo it,,20 years from now you will feel it,every day

I have been in the restaurant industry for 15 years. After I got clean from oxy and heroin, I went to school to become a drug counselor and social worker. For the past 3 years I've been doing counseling with inmates and that was very rewarding. The only issue is.... the state of New Mexico doesn't pay you shit for doing the good work like inmate drug counseling or teachers, but I'm sure that is everywhere. Just recently I was provided an opportunity to become the GM at a huge new restaurant/bar concept in Albuquerque called the SaltYard and they offered me almost 3 times the salary of what I was making as a counselor. I couldn't pass up the opportunity so I will return to counseling in the future after I retire from the restaurants I'm thinking.

Yep and most of those factory jobs are going going, gone.. the recent 60 Minutes on CBS predicted, something like 40% of ALL jobs will no longer exist in the near future. Ten, 20 years ?? Artificial Intelligence, etc.

There will be a LOT more "free time" to enjoy kratom, weed, whatever ... BUT we'll need to change Government & get the Republicans OUT! :ugeek:

I was a college professor in NYC, as well as an author until I got sick. I am currently on disability and using Kratom for pain control, and I hope to get back to my old life I loved so much. After getting sick, I had to temporarily relocate to upstate NY where rent is cheaper. Unfortunately, the doctors here have no idea what to do about my rare disease and the only one who can treat me is in NYC. My ‘insurance’ requires I see physicians in my county and had I known I had this exotic sounding condition no one has ever heard of, I would have tried to move vaguely near to a physician who can do whatever it takes to get me back to work. I was a great teacher. This feels like the waste of a life. Without Kratom though, I would have met my maker a long time ago. I am not drowning in uncontrolled pain and the sadness and anxiety that comes with it, thanks to this miracle plant.
