Sleeping pills
Recently I've been given a few pills to trial for my insomnia. I haven't been able to find much info on using them with kratom. I dose 3gm every 4-6 hours typically. The doc gave me 2 different scripts to try out: Guanfacine 1mg and Ramelteon 8mg.
Anybody have experience with these?

Re: Sleeping pills
To answer your immediate question, I’m not sure if they interact and we can’t give medical advice here. I would advise you to consult your doctor on this issue. I would recommend definitely not taking them at the same time as the kratom though.blackcj7 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 11:27 pm Recently I've been given a few pills to trial for my insomnia. On a personal note, I have horrible insomnia too so I definitely feel your pain. I’ve had sleep issues my entire adult life. I’ve never taken prescription sleeping pills. I usually just take melatonin but it’s really hit or miss.
Asking about how kratom interacts with other meds is a very common question. Every day I get more and more tempted to start compiling a database, but with thousands and thousands of prescription drugs out there, it feels like an overwhelming project and I’d need to look into the legal aspect of it.

I've also had sleeping issues for many years and took something (Rx) every night. Not a good situation. I finally went for a sleep study, was determined to have moderate apnea, and was to be fit for a CPAP. I demurred, asked for a sleep therapist instead, and it's made a world of difference. We still meet every so often (virtual), she takes my insurance, and I can't believe the difference. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a sleep therapist or that it could work (on me no less). I still have my old Rx for an emergency but I'm a different sleeper these days.

I've taken Ramelteon and kratom together quite a few times, I can't promise there's no interaction or recommend that others do it but for me personally I had no adverse effects from combining them (I took the Ramelteon 3-4 hours after my last kratom dose of the day). The Ramelteon wasn't especially effective for me, I get much better results from Trazadone.

Re: Sleeping pills
I use a CPAP. I did a sleep study and was told I had 30 AHI or something like that. I suspected I had it, so I'm glad I got tested and started treatment.boureka wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 7:46 am I finally went for a sleep study, was determined to have moderate apnea, and was to be fit for a CPAP. What does the sleep therapist do? You don't use the CPAP? I thought if you're over a certain AHI (especially with moderate apnea) you should definitely be using a CPAP.

Re: Sleeping pills
Thanks for the replies. I'm not looking for medical advice, just anecdotal information from anyone who may have used either of these. I take 100% responsibility for my decisions.
That being said, most doctors have no clue what kratom is. I'm not sure there is much research on these possible interactions either. That's why I was just asking to see if anyone has been on these while using kratom daily.
I figured ramelteon affects melatonin so it is unlikely to be an issue. I took one many many years ago and remember it made me feel exhausted but I still didn't sleep. Just stayed up the whole night feeling absolutely exhausted but never actually fell asleep.
I haven't had a sleep study done yet, but hopefully down the road a can get one done. It's hard to get medical appointments setup when I do contract work and I'm out of town 5 days a week for 3 months at a time.

Re: Sleeping pills
I took Trazodone for my insomnia for years and years. I took it concurrently with my 'night Kratom'. This past half year, I whittled my way down and entirely off the Trazodone and my insomnia is gone. That said, I have a solid 'night Kratom' selection to alternate. I also have relatively hideous anemia and so that may play a part as well, but I have many reasons to stay up sleepless and anxious, as I have for so many years, but my 'sleep Kratoms' knock me out blissfully. If I have trouble with sleeping, I likely need to rotate to another strain--admittedly, if I get buck wild over a certain strain and do not diversify my doses, the results are less effective.
Kratom helped me rely less on Trazodone. It used to require practically an animal tranquilizer to knock me down. Now, a sleepy dreamy red with gold sprinklings can do the job for me. I will say that my night reds work best with a little gold or maybe a lot of gold.
PS: I am on a pharmacopeia of medications and they do not act or react with my Kratom. It's like the big pharma stuff travels one lane and my leafy green delight travels alongside, peacefully.
