Fyre Festival Documentaries (Hulu & Netflix)

Post by MetalFusionDude »

Anyone had the chance to watch these Docs? I watched the Hulu version first and i'm gonna watch the Netflix version later tonight.

I don't want to give away too much of the premise for those unaware, but the Fyre Festival was supposed to be an upscale music event for millennials that was promoted heavily on Twitter. Rapper Ja Rule was involved.

Definitely worth the watch!

Wasn't that the disaster? Where the locals didn't want them and they were holed up in a hotel? I read so much of stuck on planes and the food was canape's on styrfoam - i didn't even know they were able to play? Read that some of them sued "ja rule" over it, but never looked later?
If they got to showtime, the bands were about the only thing that went well for em i think?
I was talking to someone who seemed to feel like the organizer got screwed over by some of the service providers......like they were maybe meaning to rip em off all along. Less about "accidents" and more about getting that set up cash - but they just kind of implied that blaming the organizer might not be entirely fair considering that the people they paid didn't much deliver.
Never heard of any of it until that story about the island being a lil hostile to the show.....after monies paid....but sure someone that was there would know more.

Definitely watch the documentaries if you have the chance Kunlong! Organizers pretty much tried to rush the setup of the festival. What should have taken 12-18 months, they tried to do in just a couple months. The organizer sold packages to stay in individual villas, or luxury type accommodations that did not exist. There were constant money problems. When they were low or ran out, they would just sell more tickets to the accommodations that did not exist. As the festival got closer, people working for the main organizer, told him it was just not gonna happen, not enough time. Most of the artists/entertainers were not paid at all.

IIRC, no musical acts actually played there. The main organizer, Billy McFarland, is currently in jail for fraud. He defrauded investors of $27 Million. If you watch the documentaries, it talks about other sketchy ventures he was involved with. After watching both Docs, I came to the conclusion he is a con man and pathological liar.

I watched this on Netflix last weekend. It seemed to begin with good intentions, then spiraled wildly out of control to epic proportions. The only thing left to do was to go along with the original plan, except with a ton of misinformation and trying to cut losses by embezzling unsuspecting and trusting people.

I knew because the college kids were having a lil fun laughing at thier richer age group. One grabbed a phone up like a speaker and said at it "Help! Stranded! Send juice boxes!" so I could not help but ask and they showed me the saga.....
