Thanks for the recommendation...

I have some coming today and have never prepared fresh frozen kava, only dry.

Does anyone have recommendations for preparing a single dose?

I take half of the bag (100-110 grams wet I think), throw it in the blender with some water, pour into a strainer bag, add more water and knead for 5 mins before squeezing the bag out and drinking the rest.
Fresh kava has a really nice taste, like cucumber water :) would do it more often if not for the price!

so prep is on the bag. half a bag makes 6 cups (8oz) and the taste is waaaaaaaay better, like cucumber water is a good comparison. however the aftertaste is the kava flavor you know and hate, so it's still hard to drink. 12 cups could do for two people.

Correction: half a bag makes six cups.

i kept the 6 cups left over in the fridge and wow, i know it's supposed to be drunk warm, but the kava taste is completely covered by being cold (and a little coconut milk which helps when warm). Bula!

the first fresh strain i tried was mo'i, and was not very strong at 1/4lb and 12 cups.

second strain was hanakapi'ai. i had misread the labeling instructions and the amount of water recommended is 6 cups to 1/4lb. I blended the 1/4lb for a little while, then kneaded for a bit more than five minutes with 5 cups water. i added some real cream and that kicked it into the realm of definitely drinkable. stronger than the mo'i but still not buzzy. might have to use a whole packet, 1/2lb.

Jack, am I doing something wrong? How did you prep your fresh to get the most outta it?

I usually use two-and-a-half to three coffee mugs of water per 100g fresh or half the bag. Seems like you're prepping just fine, maybe it's a weak batch? Could contact the vendor about it.

used 1/5 of lb of 'nene' strain. blended with makas from previous sessions and two teaspoons of nations blend (regular dried, ground kava).

massaged for ten minutes, drank with a little cream.

There was a promising body buzz and a little cheeriness, but it faded quickly.

To me, the advantage of fresh is the taste and not the potency. Prepped by itself, it smells quite good, like cucumber water, as someone stated. Still a little thick and murky, it is much milder than what you're probably used to, like just a dash of mud instead of scoop, lol. Like I said before, the cream does wonders to make it easily drinkable.

Conclusion: to get and sustain a good buzz, you will need to be constantly drinking. This fresh is much easier to drink than any other kava I have had, but it's not strong.

You can feel differences between the strains; some are mood altering, some are buzzy in the body, all were relaxing in some way.

ok, finished the last packet of awa aka kava.

I used the makas saved from previous batches, blended it with some water, stuffed into my bag, then added a little water to my large bowl. Then squeeze squeeze for about 6 or 7 min.

I crumbled the 1/2lb awa into my blender with some water and blended and blended. Then into my bag and more squeezing, almost 10min.

Poured into my Aluball shaker and added some condensed coconut milk and cinnamon. Temperature was refrigerator cool, not cold. Shaked and consumed. Mild numbing of the mouth, very relaxing, heady, little off balance walking around.

This was Hanakapi'ai strain from Pu'u o Huku Ranch on Maui. Pretty sure some of the other strains would be as strong if I had used a lot less water and blended for longer.

I recommend, and it is expensive, but so is most kava at this quality and quantity. High level of drinkability with the base taste of cucumber water (i'm stealing that description from someone else who tried it).

Remember to blend, blend, blend the heck outta it.
