Never took kava before. Need help

I just bought 2 oz of what looks like nano powder.. curious do i need to prep into a tea or just mix in water. I have insomnia and anxiety. Looking for something to help me fall asleep. I bought it from a mom and pop herb and spice company. It doesnt say what kind it is. Just simply kava. How much should i take to start and how do i prepare. Also i take kratom regularly. Is there any concerns or is this okay. Thanks guys

Did you ever figure it out? How well did it work? IVe only got the expensive tinctures so i just do a dropper full.

It ended up being 2 day kava and it messed me up for days. Terrible. But I bought some kalm with kava borogu and it helped with sleep but for some reason I have kava hangovers when I use it so I don't do it unless I have too

it's tudei kava that you want to avoid. You want noble kava, it does not have parts of the rood that are bad for you.

Perhaps you are tking too much? Do you know how to prep kava or are you getting instant?

There are two types of 'instant,' one is superfine ground root. The other is pure dehydrated juice. Ideally you want the dehyrated juice. gourmethawaiiankava.com is a good source, frequently sold out, though.

I'm confused. so there is a "tudei" kava that lasts "two days?" or is it being called tudei a coincidence? and why is tudei kava sold if it has parts of the root that are bad for you?

It's more expensive but if you buy micronized kava, it's very easy in that you just have to stir it into liquid and drink. Regular kava has to be strained , shaken, etc. It's cheaper but more work. My spouse swears by it for sleep but I kind of hate it because it just makes me dizzy. Absolutely no euphoria but its effects are within minutes so that's nice.
I'd start with a very low dose, say 1¹-2 g and add if you want. Too large a dose is sickening, for me anyway.

So I walked into Bula's Kava Bar recently and had a "shell" (That's how they serve it!) ~ It was OK. Taste is, well... horrible. Worse than kratom. Kava drinkers in a Kava Bar, generally do NOT sip their shell - They go bottoms up! Chug... quick... before that taste hits you. Mouth goes instantly numb.

I mean I've done this, a few times... Mainly as a curiosity & for social kick. Then I pulled up a Kratom site on my tablet & showed Bartender... pic of some Kratom drink (they DO have bottled Kratom Soda drinks now !!) maybe it was from Thailand. Anyway... I'm like Hey! When do you guys offer some nice Kratom Cola ? Or Kratom Tea drink here ??

She gives me an attitude. "Oh. Well, the Owner doesn't wanna have Kratom here, cuz you know, it's addictive and all,"... "And, well, some of our Customers are against that !!" HUH ?? "Yes some of our Regular customers, are in Recovery so they drink Kava, and... you know, they're against Kratom." WOW.

I'll only do kava on a lark now, the buzz can vary so much depending on which kavalactones are in your kava sample, and even if you get it as dehydrated juice (no prep, taste is way more palatable than the regular nauseating flavor). If you can get a strain with a high amount of a euphoric kavalactone(s), then as long as you keep drinking you will have a good time.

I cannot for the life of me understand how kràtom is treated so differently than kava. Kava has zero associated controversy. If anyone can explain that to me, I'm very curious.

I don’t know, I went to a kava bar a couple times many years ago with a work friend and had never heard of kratom back then. The bar is still around the corner from me and I’m pretty sure most kava bars now serve kratom drinks also. The very first kratom I bought was a few years ago at a head shop right next to the kava bar. Back then the kava mellowed me out a little bit but I got itchy from it, maybe a slight allergy. I tried it again a year or so ago, I bought an Aluball and a couple different kinds from Wonderland Gardens but I didn’t notice any effects. I know many don’t believe the Aluball is good and you have to make it the traditional way but that’s too much work, I’ve been hearing about freeze dried or something like that, sounds interesting. After I bought the kratom I looked it up online and saw I could get the exact same thing I bought for half the price lol (EXP red vein capsules).

There used to be big controversy, mostly focusing around liver damage from tudei kava. There are mixed results from studies and there is push for definitive answers. But Polynesians have been using kava safely for ages, so if you do it like they do, you're probably ok.

The take away now is that if you stick to noble kava you are ok (unless you have a reaction like Lokey and get itchy) but tudei is not healthy for your liver.

Each strain of kava comes with varying kavalactones, and knowing these will indicate what effects are more pronounced, heady, euphoric, body buzz, relaxed muscles, sleepiness, etc. There are published guides to the kavalactones online.

Hit up MeWe's kava group. I think one thing everyone agrees on is kava is not pleasant tasting, and i'm not sure why. It's a mellow, muddy water taste with some numbing of the mouth...but for some reason it's highly nauseating, and traditionally chugged from coconut shell cups. Mixing with coconut milk or coffee creamer makes it more palatable, as does consuming it fresh frozen (mild cucumber water taste), or dehydrating the pure juice (milder taste than traditional powdered, can mix with anything you like). I recommend the dehydrated juice from Bula Kava or Gourmet Hawaiian Kava (if they are still around, check every day, they are sold out so frequently it's insane, guy doesn't return email).

Some love the alu ball, made by a Samoan NFL player who wanted a quicker way to make the grog for his team. It's a big hit with most.

Oh thanks for all that information! Sometimes I'll take a kava because it's not time for my kràtom and I want to take the edge off..but it's a mixed bag for me. Sometimes it just makes me leaden and dizzy, not exactly what I was going for...but even that may beat anxiety so at best it's a mixed bag.
We have the alu ball but it seems everyone is too lazy and goes for micronized. I will absolutely look into the products you recommended. Mahalo!

What about BBC news on NPR? I think that's an excellent news source. But I think of NPR as more of a magazine. Love radio lab, the moth, science Friday, this American Life and others. I think we probably agree, you've got to be careful where you get your news.

Be aware that 'micronized' is just a fine blend of the root vs 'instant' which is dehydrated pure juice. Sometimes micronized can be a huge fiber bomb, lol.

I haven't heard BBC radio news during NPR, my driving hours. I would be open to a listen.

Yeap, MeWe is not user friendly. The website on a desktop/laptop is easier than the app on a smartphone to use.

If you don't know if you have noble kava, be sure to strain the root so you don't get the bad kavalactones that lead to liver failure.
