What are your hobbies?
Hey gang,
I'm curious about the things you all get up to when you're not working or enjoying kratom. What do you do for fun?
Lately I've been playing with microcontrollers and LED lights. I also have a 3D printing hobby, which is one reason why I've been playing with lights. I'm going to be making some functional movie props (so maybe the Time Machine's present / destination / previous destination display from Back To The Future).
What about you?

Re: What are your hobbies?
I wasted my life away doing IV drugs for about the first 35 years of my life . so , hobbies don't come into play too much these days . I have a lot of make up to do and that mostly involves making money to get me and my kid afloat .
when I do get into hobbies it involves testing different paint finishes and determining which procedures and products are going to perform the best.
I screwed around so much of my life , I remember all those time , at 23 or 30 always making excuses that I would make up for it later. Well , later has arrived, and if I don't make up for it now it aint gonna happen . . I have time to make dinner , do the laundry , put the pressure on for the homework. And thats about it . text clients to set up a estimate. I turned my job into a hobby and thats all the time I have left . 9 hours gone a day and then cooking and laundry . It s action packed and keeps me out of trouble . Although this weekend when he went with his mom I slept ALL DAY on Saturday .
. And the microcontrollers and LED lights. that sounds super fun . I wish I could organize my time a little better to get into things like that . It's not going to happen today though. I am trying to build a crew so they can go do the work while I skim off their wages . But I am also a socialist who refuses to pay my guys crap .
I still play my guitar an hour or so a night , and really . All this internet stuff wastes a lot of time we could be doing something else .

I'm a full time dad of a 2 & 3 year old. My main hobbies are when they nap I can go to the downstairs bathroom and poop in piece and then do some breath meditation to clear my mind and recharge my patience. Then nap time ends and the chaos begins.

I'm a really avid cook, and have also started gardening in support of that. I also like to sew, but am much more of a beginner at that. I was taking quilting classes when the pandemic started, but haven't done any quilting since then.

Fallguy and DittonW - well I just want to say that I'm happy to read how you both are giving being a parent your all!
Certainly though, I didn't mean that a hobby is something that you need to be single to enjoy! What about something that you sneak in here or there for a few minutes? A sudoku puzzle, a quick sports team update, playing a quick game or whatever!

I used to enjoy cooking before chronic pain took most of the enjoyment out of it. What's your favorite thing to make?

Aww, I'm sorry. I kind of worry about that for me, eventually. I find myself choosing lighter pans, and I'm less likely to stand around for long periods of time in the kitchen. I go through phases, but lately I make a lot of Chinese, Thai, Korean, Mexican, and Indian food. When my kids come home to visit, they mostly ask for Korean bbq or gumbo.PistolsAtDawn wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 2:40 pm I used to enjoy cooking before chronic pain took most of the enjoyment out of it. Becoming a coffee snob but trying not to have too much attitude. Films/movies. Former avid reader. Mattress tester. Driving. Former avid hiker, current Nordic walker. Foodie/critic/cooking/baking. Toastmaster. Hooked on Dr. Pimplepopper aka Sandra Lee, and the Toe Bro aka Jonathan Tomines. University of Hawaii football fan, Go 'Bows, UH Rainbow Warriors! Partial to Green Bay too.
My dog, Mei. She was my service dog, guardian, companion, friend, bebs, inspiration, homie. One of our hobbies together was k9 nosework (snifferdog sports), dogs get trained to smell and locate general oils of clove, anise, and birch. From that training they can sniff a particular scent you present, and in differing environs, like rooms, car interior/exterior, etc. In our apt. I used to do sniff runs directly with food kibbles since the whole area would get saturated with the oil smell and be confusing. My cat Max was no dummy and figured out when Mei was scenting the air and searching, she was looking for chibbies, and would join the hunt, often finding some of them faster.

Sold most, but when Ebay started 20 years ago, I still had quite a few, even Golden Age, 50's magazines, some baseball cards, etc. Sold 'em all on Ebay.

yeah well... All the parties, like a lot of people got very distracted.. Drugs. We've all seen the Scarface movie, lol, I was there! Miami.. girlfriend was a dancer & had to drive her to the Methadone clinic - I didn't stay in L.A. too long, but some wild memories.. I got in a scuffle with a drunk Dee Dee Ramone once. Of all those rock people from Seattle 40+ years ago, (before Grunge,) only 1 guy really made it (Guns n Roses) and he nearly died from alcohol poisoning!IndelibleDotInk wrote: ↑Fri Sep 17, 2021 2:52 am So dope, bet you have some stories to relate and then some (more)!

Re: What are your hobbies?
Video games. It’s been a lifelong hobby. When I’m not gaming, I’ve been working on my own game in my spare time for the last five years. Learning video game development as I go. It’s a fun little project and I’ve learned so much.
I love movies and podcasts if you consider those hobbies.
Also, foreign languages. I love studying and learning languages. Tons of resources online and apps. Then just immerse myself in movies, tv shows, music, books, etc in that language. So far I’ve studied Spanish, German, and Norwegian.
Other than that, not much these days. Used to be into playing guitar but haven’t picked mine up in a long time. Used to love going camping and fishing too, but the older I get, the more I just want to stay home.

My friend went to work for Activision awhile back, he eventually got tired of game testing and became administration, then moved to a game studio.

Nice! I've always wanted to work in the game dev industry, but I'm a bit too old to be starting a new career now. Plus, it's a super competitive field. My chances are about zero of breaking into the industry now lol. However, I do hope to maybe one day start my own game dev company. Nothing major, just a small studio w/ a few people making indie games.IndelibleDotInk wrote: ↑Fri Sep 17, 2021 10:01 pmMy friend went to work for Activision awhile back, he eventually got tired of game testing and became administration, then moved to a game studio.

The blackhead/dilated pore of winers are so satisfying to watch. Stuff where she has to scalpel deep into the skin are hard to make it through the beginning, but I like how she sutures them with such precision at the end. I feel inspired when she works on patients with disfiguring types of problems, they are so happy after to not have a melon-sized tumor hanging off of their noses (or wherever).

Re: What are your hobbies?
That's a really interesting collection of hobbies we've got! Here's a picture of where my 3D printing hobby intersects with kratom. I made a 100 count 00 size capsule filler. It's not hard to use, but it is a bit tedious and time consuming. I've only capped some Lucky Herbals strains so far, but I may make more soon from some of the newer stuff I've gotten lately.

Another thing I enjoy is accents and trying to imitate them. I'm nobody special at it, but it's still fun.

Your 3d printing is a cool hobby to have, add the fact that you make stuff you can actually use is even better.PistolsAtDawn wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 11:29 pm That's a really interesting collection of hobbies we've got! Just a note, make sure you aren't like me and some others whose bodies can't digest the capsules enough to get a burn. I have to open them and get the powder out for any effect.

same here,
i am also father of 2 , but i still play video games as hobby, in mobile not console. I play PUBG Mobile, we have semi-pro team here so sometimes we join local tournament.
Tournament is more fun since it'll give more satisfaction when winning.

I've been trying to learn Spanish for a long time but It's really hard for me. French is easier for some reason. I wish I had a group of Spanish-speaking friends. I was thinking of taking a class at the nearby community college but then I'd be surrounded by people like me, rather than being immersed in the language.

I love reading, running, kratom, and weed. I have recently gotten into gardening. Loving so far but lots of work. I also pass much time writing all sorts of content. Lastly I play the occasional video game, and fish sometimes. I live in the south where hunting is very prevalent so I do that occasionally to but not sure I would call it a hobby. I’m sure we all watch tv, and movies so I want call that a hobby. Lastly listening to music, and playing my guitar is a big hobby of mine along with researching interesting topics. I love learning useful things.

Re: What are your hobbies?
I've always loved riding motorcycles. At one time we had 3 and my son, my husband, and I would go on day trips. A couple of years ago we got a trike and would ride it quite a bit.
In December I was leaving work in my car and was hit head on by a drunk driver. Luckily I walked away unscathed but I can't shake the feeling that if I had been on a bike it would've killed me. Definitely a buzzkill. Lol.
My other hobbies are going to concerts and listening to any kind of live music, learning to play my electric mandolin, and reading books on finance and the stock market.
I also love martial arts and have a couple of belts in goju ryu karate, but got too old to go any further.

Re: What are your hobbies?
I recently got a MiSTer FPGA system for my rebuilt arcade cabinet, and I've been having a blast exploring a lot of rare and early game consoles that I never had or even played! It also supports a lot of early computing platforms which I haven't yet even started exploring.
Given how amazingly-well it's able to recreate these platforms - and thanks to a big price hike on my storage unit - I'm going to be selling almost all of my classic game systems and cartridges / CDs. I haven't used any of them in years, and I don't see using them again since the MiSTer has them all covered. I definitely don't want to pay $1k/year to store them, and I could use the money.
I'm also going to sell most of my old homebrewing equipment since that's in the storage unit as well. It was a good hobby while I was able, but I can't put any of it to use and it's taking up space.

I have an NES, SNES, Game Boy / Color, Virtual Boy, N64, Wii, Wii U, Switch, PS1/2, Genesis 3 (3rd party made), a Neo Geo Pocket Color, an Open Pandora palmtop PC (has built-in gaming controls) and maybe something else I'm forgetting.
Very soon I will be listing an original copy of EarthBound (with the original player's guide) as well as a NA copy of the original Harvest Moon. Those two games together are worth close to $900 if you can believe it!
I'm keeping my jailbroken PS3, I already sold my PS4 Pro when the v. 9.00 jailbreak came out, and my PS5 is actively used. In addition to that awesome MiSTer FPGA computer I also got a Steam Deck this year, so of the systems that are too recent for the MiSTer, the Steam Deck has me covered (even Switch and some PS3 games). I'm also keeping my Nintendo 3DS, because that's still a great system to have even in a Switch world.
I also own a Gauntlet Legends 4 player arcade cabinet with a special CRT monitor (Kortek 2914F, has a VGA/DSUB connection) that makes it easy to hook up to modern systems. The MiSTer was bought specifically for the cabinet, but unfortunately the screen died and I need to send it to a specialist for repairs.
Do you do any gaming? Tabletop or otherwise?

It's because I almost never sold anything from the time I had an NES (inherited from an older cousin) onward. 30+ years of gaming junk I've hauled around move after move. Mostly because I have good memories tied to it, but also because until somewhat recently they were impossible to play perfectly through emulation.IndelibleDotInk wrote: ↑Thu Nov 24, 2022 9:31 pmwow, all kinds of classic videogame badassery going on here.
I'm not at all a collector, and I haven't used any of this stuff in years now. With all that stuff being sought after again I might as well get something for it and get rid of the storage unit.
