I started taking alpha lipoic acid after someone here mentioned that their doctor told them to take it to help bring down their blood sugar (with COQ10 and magnesium glycinate).
Weeks after that, I saw a comment somewhere that someone's doctor had suggested they take alpha lipoic acid for loss of smell (anosmia) related to Covid. Before I saw this I
had noticed that I was getting random, split-second whiffs of things I haven't smelled since I had Covid a year ago. That's been increasing a little too.
I hadn't looked into it before but there are articles about alpha lipoic acid helping with this problem.
Will continue to monitor.

I'm not suggesting a cure, might just be coincidence. Might not.
Where do you get the alpha lipoic acid from? I use nootropics depot for most of my supplements. Have you noticed any other health benefits from the alpha lipoic acid? I think I remember reading something about it maybe being helpful for mitochondrial function (to help with energy) or inflammation.
I take COQ10 and Magnesium Citrate (to help with any constipation from kratom). Wondering if magnesium glycinate will help like the Citrate does but provide other magnesium benefits. It's kind of expensive but if its worth it I'll add it to my regiment.
Speaking of Covid, North Carolina is in the midst of our biggest surge by far. 35,000 cases yesterday and we've been testing at 30% or above positive rate for about 10 days straight now (35% 2 days ago). Covid patients in the hospital is highest it's been since covid started. For example, my dad had to be taken to the hospital on Dec 27 and he stayed there until the 29th. There were around 1800 covid patients in hospitals in the state at that time. Now, there is about 4900!!! And the state is requested aid from FEMA for help overwhelmed hospital system.
About 70% of my co-workers had covid within the last 3 weeks (I work for Cheesecake Factory, don't eat inside at busy restaurants like Cheesecake right now is my insider advice lol, it's not pretty or clean and feels like a giant super-spreader event ever shift with how busy we are and how packed it is. We don't space out tables at all

). We've had to run shifts without salad and pizza stations open, limited menus cause short cooks. And I had a co-worker, another server, pass away from covid right before the new year and just had his funeral this past week. It's been a mess. My mom tested positive about 2 weeks ago, and I felt like I had a cold for about 4 days or so. Both mild cases thankfully (yes, we're both vaccinated and recently got our boosters). But it's the first time since we've been using kratom daily 6 years ago that we actually got sick. Kratom wasn't working as well but it did help while we were feeling ill.
