On Sunday the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices issued recommendations on who should get the COVID vaccine next. For Tier 1B they recommended people 75 years and older and frontline essential workers.
There are approximately 30 million people in that frontline essential workers list which includes:
First Responders (firefighters, police)
Education (teachers, support staff, daycare)
Food & Agriculture
Manufacturing
Corrections workers
U.S. Postal Service workers
Public transit workers
Grocery store workers
It is expected to take until mid-January before they finish vaccinating at-risk health care workers and residents in long-term care facilities. Tier 1B would be next.

Re: Coronavirus discussion
I sure hope these workers rotate getting the vaccine so not everyone is sick from the side effects at the same time! I would think that they should stay home while sick from the shot, both for their comfort and appreciation and so nobody gets accustomed to working with sick co-workers. They say it’s 5 days. Maybe not EVERYONE has those side effects, but it would suck if all of the health care workers got shots and then stayed on the job while ill.
Thanks for being a part of today's solution!

Just to clarify, side effects are possible but are uncommon, usually last 24-48 hours. Severe side effects are very rare (I think there have been about 6 in the 1,000,000 or so already distributed in the US). Even if you did experience a side effect, you wouldn't be contagious because you don't have the virus, but I can understand how people wouldn't want to work while they didn't feel good.

The allergic reactions worry me. I've had anaphylaxis shock twice due to medications and have randomly broken out in hives a few times. Since I work in manufacturing I'll be in the next group of people eligible for the vaccine. Maybe by the time this happens they will have a clearer understanding of what's causing the reactions.herbalhippie wrote:She fainted because she has a medical condition that predisposes her to it. Hey Girl!
From what I'm reading, the set-up will go like this: You'll be questioned about medication history - especially - medication allergies. You receive the vaccination. Then we are to be sat down for 15 minute to see if there are any adverse reactions.
15 minutes isn't very long, imo. Make sure that they KNOW you have a history with bad reactions. They will want to monitor you; if they don't it will be their asses. Keep 911 at hand.
Remember the whole Hydroxychloroquine mess (Trump's miracle cure bullshit)? I nearly died from taking that (for Lupus). IF I can actually GET a COVID vaccine I'll make sure they know I'll avail myself of all social media if I start to swell up and can't open my eyelids. I, for one, am tired of being a sacrifice on the world's fucking altar of Good Women.

I watched a video yesterday that claimed she in fact dead. He went on website to check death status, and her name was on it, 30 years and her close once to not confuse with someone else. I HATE WHEN powers be is messing with my mind, who to believe? So was it her speaking saying she is fine? Then why the death certificate that checks when the person died? I can't remember which death data base site it was, can some one check? Why her name is in death data base? It Could be some fu*king with our minds.BallzDeep9 wrote:How about don't fall for ANY conspiracy videos on YouTube?brave777 wrote:Guys the nurse that fainted and a lot of people claimed she died, she is fine. Hey Greyfeather! I plan on getting the vaccine but I'll be scared shitless. I read an article about a Dr. that had a shellfish allergy that took the Moderna vaccine and went into anaphylaxis. If I get the shot I definitely want to be in a doctor's office or hospital setting, not a CVS drugstore. Lol

If, and this is a pretty big if right now, I get the vacccine it will probably be Pfeizer, not Moderna. There was a discussion in r/medicine about it and most of the medical professionals said they'd chose the one over the other.

I hope I didn't scare you; I didn't mean to. I think it's wise to treat medical personnel with caution - especially right now. But the vaccine is being given to healthcare workers and I'd like to think that they wouldn't be given a medication that might harm them. It's really hard to know if the press will be on top of vaccine problems, but you know the press - if there's bad news out there they will be all over itMetalMamaRocks wrote:Ooh, I'll have to remember that. So try not to worry. Ask questions (and look at nametags). If I were offered the vaccine tomorrow I would take it. We don't want to mistake a panic attack for something else

Yeah, he was just posturing. There's no telling why he did it, I don't see any benefit of him creating chaos just to appear strong. Even he probably doesn't know, he's an unpredictable petulant child that acts on his own worst impulses, and he's throwing an extended temper tantrum now because he lost the election and can't persuade the Senate and the courts to overturn the results.
Now that he went out of his way to request $2,000 checks, which Democrats have always wanted, we'll see if Republicans get in line behind Trump like they've always done in the past four years, or if they refuse to go for higher payments like normal. Trump might have unwittingly caused a rift in his own party, but maybe he has his own secret motive. My bet is he changes his mind on the checks, unless he thinks asking for more helps him politically. But once Biden takes office, we will hopefully see more aid.

It's sad how much the coronavirus thread is like the politics megathread, often you can't even tell them apart. I know it's been said before, but an epidemic has been turned into divisive politics. Not following the administration's own covid recommendations and disregarding safety has become political statement that you support the administration, somehow, and vice versa - wearing a mask has become a statement to mean you're a left wing radical.

As for the covid relief, I didn't get a chance to update my banking information, so I'm waiting on a check. They were said to begin going out on Wed Dec 29, so hopefully by the end of the month most people will have got theirs? Reddit is totally trashing the $600 checks over not being nearly enough to really help anyone. Mitch refused to go up to $2,000 because it would benefit rich socialist people that don't need it, or something.

Here's the site to check the status of your check. It's temporarily offline, but they've said it will come back soon and to keep checking back

First report I have seen of outright vaccine shenanigans (in Tennessee). A long line of people turned away, then later "close contacts" are notified and show up for what appears to be some 'special favors': https://www.wrcbtv.com/story/43118412/f ... urned-away
I suspect this will get worse. When it comes to a scarce, life-saving resource, that "haves" typically find a way to jump the line. If people are vaccinated at our current pace this could take YEARS

I finally heard back about the vaccine. It's going to be the Moderna one, I should be getting it in the next week or two, there's not a specific date yet. This one requires a second shot 28 days later. I'll post again after I get my vaccination card to report on the side effects, if any. With all the crazy news of the past week, people seem to have forgotten about the virus, but it's breaking new records every day - 4,000+ deaths a day in the US. We could hit half a million by February.

Another of son's co-workers tested positive. Says she "got it from a friend".
Son tested negative on Wednesday but today has a headache and a cough so I took him to the drive through testing and we're waiting on results. We've been following protocol since Wednesday but we share a bathroom and there's no getting around that.
So I'm kinda scared.

Did you get a rapid test? My doctor told me a few months ago that the rapid tests are not very effective in detecting the virus, I believe he said it was only 50-60% effective. I'm not sure if that's still accurate now, maybe they have improved the testing. Not sure how effective the regular tests are.

Re: Coronavirus discussion
Yeah, rapid test.
This particular co-worker tested positive early last month (rapid test) so they shut down the bank and everyone went and got tested. Her non-rapid test comes back a few days later, it was a false positive. This time I guess it's not because she WASN'T SOCIAL DISTANCING.
If son's comes back positive today I'll go get tested in a couple days.
He hasn't lost sense of taste or smell and doesn't seem to feel bad. So there's that.

There was an FDA release a few days ago about one company's rapid test giving a lot of false negatives. I called the clinic we went to yesterday and she said they do not use that particular company's test.

Two of my daughters buy this and take it as a preventative for colds and flus (and hopefully Covids). I meant to order some a while back and completely spaced it until today. When I need it right now. I ordered two bottles and sent them an email begging them to ship tomorrow.
https://www.sauvieshrubs.com/products/e ... fire-cider
I have made fire cider before but only the more simple, original recipe. Fresh yellow onions, garlic, ginger, hottest peppers you can stand, fresh horseradish root. Peel and chop everything up as small as you can or grind it up in a food processor which is what I did. Put in a big jar, cover with Bragg's apple cider vinegar and let sit for a month. Turn the jar upside down a few times occasionally. I added raw honey after straining. It actually tastes really good, but you will reek of garlic after a few days use.
My middle daughter liked to put droppers of it on pizza and salads.

Please keep us posted and let us know if we can be useful. I know a lot of folks don't hold with prayer but you and your son are in mine.

Luckily he can quarantine in his room away from me. I am delivering food and water, leaving it outside his door. His bedroom door is actually about 7 steps down the porch from the door to my side of the apartment, so he's good and quarantined. We have a good protocol for if he gets an exposure scare at work so there's that.
I went and got tested after he got home this morning, negative so far. I'll go again Friday, even if I'm still feeling well.
I'll take all the prayers I can get, thank you!

I'll be able to get it sooner, I have asthma. However, I am undecided still. I was going to wait until around June, see what's happening with people that have gotten the vaccine.
What I need to do is quit reading about it at r/medicine.
