A great ally and warrior for the kratom community is in dire need of help. Not only has he fought for our beloved leaf but he has fought for our country as well. He is also battling some major health issues and this could not have happened at a worse time. He and his family have been evicted by the VA....literaly thrown out on the street without a place to go. He has set up a gofundme and I am pleading for anyone who can to help him. I read of his plight on twitter and knowing most of us are not on that platform I wanted to share this link so he can get as much help as possible and I did ask his permission to do so. For those of the new kratomites who might not recognize his name if you have seen the kratom documentary "A Leaf of Faith" then you have also seen Drew Turner aka u/nerdstakeontheworld. He has an interview that is in the film.

Some of you may know him as u/HMR2018 , some may know of him at Drew Turner, some may know of him as Nerds. By any name, he has been an integral part of the kratom community since Day 1 - going above and beyond in the fight to educate and keep kratom legal since the beginning. He has done more for this community than anyone could quantify, helped more people than anyone could count, and now he needs our help.

Andrew Turner is a service disabled veteran and on top of that he is battling cancer. The VA that promised to help their VETS has now bailed and abandoned him. Right now, as you are reading this, he is being evicted and having to move all his belongings. He has to pick up his family and move to the midwest with nothing.


There is a gofund me account set up for him. Please help if you can. I have been blown away by the kindness and generosity of this community. Let's rally and give what we can to this man who has given so much of himself to us. Every donation, of any size, makes a difference. I knew he's been a DC resident for long time, seems like rents everywhere are going up up up.. IF landlords R gonna keep raising rent, then, maybe we need Rent Control laws at least in big cities

  • The VA basically cut us off at the knees in a bad situation. They say they never want to see homeless veterans but at my lowest while deep in to my 3rd cycle of chemo they basically allowed us to be foreclosed and evicted after our bank screwed up payments, then the court process we fell through the cracks where they disnt do the mediation that's in their policy, then made numerous statements that they would hell unshuffle the issue and waited until the noise had died down from a couple months ago when some advocacy folks and the media were in their ass about it and basically walked on us and we got tossed out in to the street from the ok nky home we have. It's been a long time issue I've tried not to make a stir about and got blindsided. There is a far bigger issue now and we will wind up having to fight it all in the courts but our home is gone and in the process of eviction they destroyed so much ok of personal things. . That's basically the shortest answer but it's a whole bigger thing.

Were they spending a lot of money on your medical treatment? What did they say their reasoning was?

  • Not exactly that. This didn't affect my benefits, we are using those to pay for my cancer treatment as I wont use the VA for medical care when at all possible. The VA guarantees all veterans mortgages, so when a default happens ahere by neglect or in our case due to some banks screwing up, the VA is supposed to mediate and make sure a default/foreclosure is avoided. We sorta slipped through the cracks in the VA and judicial system when that went down and just didnt know what happened until it was so late that nothing could fix it. What added insult to injury is that the VA repeatedly claimed theh were helping then bailed on us literally last minutes. So we got handed to the wolves so to speak yesterday. In the past couple months due to all this it just upended our lives and when the eviction went down we were basically without options. Truly a tale in watching closer the government orgs you are told to just trust I guess.

Yeah, I saw that. I'm very disappointed in him for attacking Nerds. His contributions to our cause can not be overstated. Wot really should appreciate that. The way I see it, without Nerds, where would we be...honestly? Tossing and washing javanica dreaming of the glory days, right? To try to call him out for adding to his collection months before is not the way to go. Like it or lump it, he's done a TON for our cause. What IS Wots beef with him anyway? He has a goofy hobby? As far as raising the goal, I know FROM EXPERIENCE that when you start over in a new place, you literally CAN'T have enough money. Nerds could have 10,000 dollars and STILL run out of money.

As for the nastiness over on Reddit, I had no idea that was WOT. That makes that all the more painful as I thought he and I were on good terms and used to talk public and private so much. I wonder what set that off? Guess I just cant take it personal.

Anyway thank yall. I promise eventually as long as the cancer doesnt kill me I'll be back and better than ever. We are headed for Michigan, so hopefully I'll get to help the lobbying/advocacy to get the KCPA in place there. Eventually I'll start back with some YouTube stuff that's been a long time planned. I keep trying to film but the brain fog from the chemo just leaves stuff bad.

Again thank you all. I'll make sure in a few weeks once we are settled elsewhere to come post an update and here is to hoping this is rock bottom.

Just for awareness, we met the final goal last night and closed it. Between the GFM and my wife being able to now keep her job in a telecommute role we have the breathing room to start over in Michigan. I truly appreciate you all.

Also for those that know how critical I've been in the past of GAIA and Dan publicly he gave the final donation this morning of 1000$ and I'm going to be eating some very humble pie today. Some times that's just what one has to do to survive.

Hopefully this will be my final cycle of chemo and I'll be able to get back in the advocacy saddle soon and be around here and Reddit regularly again. I know the AKA has been working on the KCPA passing in Michigan so I'm hoping that I'll be able to work with them again on that, for those that didnt know we squashed our issues months ago when they asked me to help with the Fox News piece a few months ago.
