storage containers?

Post by 3Gdd6R »

some of my orders arrive in the big air-sealed bags with no zip-lock. once cut open, they are not easily sealable. what are some container suggestions to put the powder from these bags into?

also, kratom will last a long time in sealed bags like zip locks at room temp, yes?

If I get kratom in vacuum sealed bags I put it in freezer ziplocs. Yes, it lasts a long time kept dry and relatively cool. I keep all my sealed bags in snap seal bins too with desiccant packets in the bins.

Years, literally. Just make sure it's dry, like HH said.

Also, ziploc bags (especially the heavier freezer variety like HH recommended) will definitely do in a pinch, even for long term storage, but since they won't stand up on their own reliably enough to get a dose out and are prone to slipping out of one's hands a number of people prefer glass mason jars. I have weak grip because of arthritis so I don't chance it; the only ziplocs I have are sample bags and the rest stays in the flat-bottomed ziploc it came in or moves to a glass mason jar. Money's tight and I will do just about anything to ensure I don't klutz my money's worth of kratom onto the kitchen floor in some unforeseen billowing powdery tragedy.

But even a recycled coffee tin with snap on lid, glass food jars, or airtight plastic food containers like Tupperware will do the job; as long as it's airtight and rust free, and big enough to hold what you want, you're good. I have had a number of samples in repurposed 8 oz. glass pesto jars, and usually use another one for mixing up and storing daily doses, for example. You could even put that new ziploc in that old coffee tin if you wanted: at least it would stand up for dosing then.

It's really a matter of preference and how much you want to spend (or if like me you already have an excess number of mason jars, lids and rings lying around the house). As long as it's airtight and food safe it should be fine.

I put it in freezer ziplocs .. I keep all my sealed bags in snap seal bins too with desiccant packets in the bins.
Same here hippie! Original bags, inside of freezer bags. Then put those bags inside a plastic box - check out the Iris Weathertight Storage boxes.. they have a foam ring around the seal, which is I guess the "weather tight" part lol  19 quart size holds around 20 quarter kilo bags. So if you're buying split kilos, nice way to organize those.

that's good to know about lasting. went to store and got some of the big freezer zip locks you mentioned. never thought of those dry packs you mentioned. had to look up the word "desiccant". Amazon probably has those & i'll get some. great tip, thanks!

I squish all the air bag out and use an impulse sealer to reseal the bag. Then it goes into big storage bins with locking handles. You can get the dessicant packs on Amazon. Some bags don't seal well at all for some reason. If that happens I use the a ziploc type bag, squich all the air out and then put it into a vauum seal bag and seal it like that. Just depends on how much I think I might be in and out of the bag.

I use ziplocked freezer bags for all the order I get and I've yet to receive any complaints yet.

I have both kinds of plastic bins -- one of the waterproof ones and many non-waterproof Sterilite bins of varying sizes -- and yet my kratom stays in cardboard Amazon boxes, go figure.

Though to be honest, at this point if I ever needed a waterproof/bugproof plastic bin in a pinch, I'd put a nice unbroken line of 1/4" or 1/2" automotive weatherstrip around the top edge of a cheaper bin, add some clips or a bungee if it didn't have any closures already, and call it done...

You're in a humid area, do you have desiccant packs in with your kratom?

No, there's no need really. The air conditioner takes care of most of it. If we lost AC I would just not open any large bags, and in a pinch I can re-dry anything I need to in a very low oven (think 200F for an hour) and it would be fine. I still have premium black teas that are 15 years old and in perfect shape with no special care, and kratom's even more resilient than that. :D
