Tea vs Toss and Wash: What’s Your Go-To and Why?
Been seeing a lot of talk lately about tea vs toss and wash, so I wanted to throw this out there and get some real opinions.
We just put together a deep dive on how to make kratom tea and why some people actually prefer it over toss and wash. Not just a basic “boil water and strain” type post, but breaking down things like taste, digestion, consistency, and why tea hits differently for some folks.
Personally, I know people who swear tea is smoother and easier on the stomach, and others who say toss and wash will always be king.
Curious what camp you’re in.
Do you notice a real difference when you use tea instead of powder?
Do you add lemon, honey, ginger, or keep it plain?
Anyone switch to tea long term and never look back?
If you want to check out the full breakdown, it’s here:

Would love to hear how you all do it and why.

I pour a shot of hot ass water in a cup dump a tablespoon in. Mix it up. Top off with a shot or so of cold orange juice and slug it in a gulp. Easy peasy lemon squeezeee

I used to do a lot of toss and wash and it put me off all of it so bad it’s only caps and blate papes for me for a couple of years lol. I’ve never actually tried brewing it, but this post is a reminder to maybe get the courage to try again. I just have developed super strong aversions and feel like I can’t handle the bitterness. I read your in depth post about it though, I like the table comparisons and it’s a great way to inform those of us who are dragging our feet. I guess we become creatures of habit.

Can't help wondering if you make your own ass water, or if you buy it online?MAENGDONG712 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 06, 2026 11:06 pm I pour a shot of hot ass water in a cup dump a tablespoon in. Mix it up. Top off with a shot or so of cold orange juice and slug it in a gulp. Easy peasy lemon squeezeee![]()

Used to be all fancy and either made it as a tea etc. Last few years that went out the window and I take a big shot of water, dump powder in and stir for 87 hours until it mixes and then take it like a shot with water or juice chaser.

SMOOTHIES!
For me, a smoothie has been the best option. Tea works well but the taste is unpleasant (also I may have ptsd from a toss and wash gone wrong haha).
My fruit smoothie is as below:
- blue berries, strawberries, raspberries, black berries, banana, avacado, pineapple, aloe Vera, dried cranberries, açai berry powder, maqui berry powder.
- loose leaf herbs: chamomile, damiana, mint, lavender.
- lemon, lime, red grapefruit.
- hemp hearts, powdered fibre supplement, liquid iodine.
- and of course, your choice of Kratom. I’m usually putting in a couple heaping tea spoons of a red or gold powdered Kratom strain.
With the above, you’ll never taste the kratom and you sure as won’t have any digestive issues. In fact, this smoothie promotes digestion. It’s an incredibly wonderful smoothie

Re: Tea vs Toss and Wash: What’s Your Go-To and Why?
I always toss and wash. It's quick and easy. I'm starting to wonder about the long term effects on the teeth though. Lately I've been debating switching to tea and fully filtering the powder.
I did tea after I had dental surgery. I wanted to make sure it was 100% boiled and sterile, so I made tea instead. Hot water, kratom powder, honey, and lemon.

Pretty much the same. Very hot water, kratom, whisk, a little cold water, toss it back.MAENGDONG712 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 06, 2026 11:06 pm I pour a shot of hot ass water in a cup dump a tablespoon in. You just top it off with cold water? Ive done that when out of oj. Taste doesn't bother me to much... Just gotta have a chaser. Something fiZy to grind the powder out of my tongue lol. I could probably save 25 a month in oj if I commit to just doing this.... calories saved too....

I heat about an inch of water in the microwave, maybe 30-40 seconds. Dump in my dose, whisk it up, put in just enough cold water that it won't burn my mouth and toss it back. Drink a little water after.MAENGDONG712 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 18, 2026 10:24 amherbalhippie wrote: ↑Tue Feb 17, 2026 12:34 amPretty much the same. Re: Tea vs Toss and Wash: What’s Your Go-To and Why?
At home, tea and nothing but tea, well filtered. Eating powdered kratom plays hell with my digestion, and toss and wash always seemed to me like a good way to choke to death.
I use a wide-mouthed thermos to make tea. Put in about 3 grams of leaf and maybe 500 ml of boiling water, add a squirt of lemon juice, let sit for about 20-30 minutes, shaking occasionally. Filter through Melitta-style cone coffee filters.

Toss and wash. Got used to the taste of kratom powder a long time ago, nothing stands out as particularly bitter to me.

I heat a 1/3 cup of water 28 seconds in microwave, dump in 2g of green dust & 1tsp of Nestles Hazelnut powdered creamer. Doesn't taste bad at all. I usually have to drop a little bit of crushed ice so it doesn't burn my mouth. Been doing this way for 10 years.

I’ve been wondering about this for a while. Always toss and wash too, and have been developing some dental issues. I’ve had thin enamel for a long time but now a few teeth are starting to feel rough on my tongue. It’s mildly panic inducing.e_poison wrote: ↑Mon Feb 16, 2026 9:03 pm I always toss and wash. Try to stay calm and not panic too much, dental issues are normally easy to fix these days. I'm in the same boat. I'm getting older and I have some enamel starting to wear on a few teeth. I just try to remind myself when the time comes it'll be pretty routine to take care of and have fixed. It's amazing what they can do these days.Burninator wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2026 1:59 am I’ve been wondering about this for a while. Always toss and wash too, and have been developing some dental issues. Now that I've had a chance to think about it, I think staining would be the biggest long term dental issue with kratom, rather than wear and tear on the enamel.
Still though, I'm seriously considering swapping over to tea w/ a straw and avoiding the teeth altogether.

Kratom and a straw... never imagined such a combo, you have a genius mind. I've progressed to be able to scoop powder in my mouth and swish with water, but I usually weigh and toss n wash it (pour powder onto open, mouth full of juice, head back).
Tea takes forever in comparison, and too much heat makes the tannins extract and then bitterness up the yin yang.
