Drug interaction
I am going in for a colonoscopy on Wednesday which require either fentanyl or the other one and a hystoscopy which requires general anesthesia later. I am worried about the interaction of the drugs with Kratom. I was thinking of taking it 6 hours prior so I don’t detox and having some ready when I get out. Anyone have any experience with these drugs and Kratom?

Re: Drug interaction
I STRONGLY recommend not using kratom within at least 48 hours of either opioids or - especially - general anesthesia. It's a seriously dangerous mix - please don't do it.Kratomgirl wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2023 7:00 pm I am going in for a colonoscopy on Wednesday which require either fentanyl or the other one and a hystoscopy which requires general anesthesia later. Yep. Had emergency heart surgery. Angioplasty, they put me under... I woke up in hospital bed. By end of next day I was begging Nurse for any opioid (I finaly got a Tramadol.).Kratomgirl wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2023 7:00 pm I am worried about the interaction of the drugs with Kratom ... And at the time, I was doing like 8 to 10g Kratom a day... Seemed like it did NOT interfere with "General" anaesthesia... However. Fentanyl is different.
You didn't SAY how much # Kratom you're doing. But I'd agree with others, At Least 48 Hour +clean. You'll be feeling shitty by Appt time, but you want the anaesthesia to work!!

Re: Drug interaction
My doctor wants me to do a colonoscopy, but they're pushing No Fiber for 72 hours beforehand. I assume powdered leaf is fiber. They won't give me any opiates to deal with my chronic pain, so we're at a stand still.

Maybe try the mail-in version. It's what I did the last time. They give you a kit like cologuard and it's better than nothing.

Re: Drug interaction
Since every situation is different I don’t want to give advice so I’ll just say what my experience was.
I stopped Kratom 3 days before (I take powder steeped in hot water, 7.5 grams once a day) but the prep starting the afternoon prior left me so miserable that I ended up taking one of those Kratom shots that come in a small bottle. I had planned on telling the anesthesiologist about my Kratom use, but it was a large surgery center and she wasn’t even there for the procedure. Literally stopped by while I was waiting to start, introduced herself, asked if I had any questions and then immediately left (like she jogged away to the next patient) before I could get a word out.
When it was time to start they gave me an IV (I think it was propofol) and said I should start to feel a warm rush. I started to say I didn’t feel anything and then woke up about 30 minutes later lol. Had no issues going under, no issues during, no issues after.

Re: Drug interaction
I'm not sure this adds much, but with my surgery on Thursday I stopped taking kratom three days beforehand with the idea that I would take opioids coming out.
And I did that day - but the next day (Friday) my pain was manageable (due to this nerve block pump they have installed - not an opioid or morphine but something that just numbs one of the leg's nerves) so I went back to kratom for Friday/Saturday. This morning I work up and was in SO much pain I had to take some Vicodin (they have heavier meds prescribed that I have but I thought I'd start with this) and it worked a treat, just a handful of hours after my last kratom dose.
So I'm not so sure for at least this old body that I can't just switch back and forth. I did this one other time in the last eight months, took some opioids because I needed something and they were all I had in the car, and it was essentially a substitute for a dose of kratom that day and it worked just fine. At this point I'm pretty sure I'll have to stay with the heavier stuff for the next week or two but then I intend to switch back to kratom more or less transparently.
For me the key is - don't take them at the same time. Leave four or five hours in-between. Otherwise, don't worry.

Re: Drug interaction
Im not saying do what I did, in fact better to try and not to if you can. I had major sinus surgery where I was put under for hours with fent and other stuff I believe,I took tea like normal the day before. The day of the surgery I think I didnt do any tea, surgery was at like 2pm. I got through surgery and there was a ton of bleeding(which is kinda normal for sinus surgery) and was released. We went to hotel and the bleeding didnt stop so we went to emergency room and was taken right in. They did many things trying to stop the bleeding, but after like 2 hours they made the call for another surgery on my sinuses. They put me down with fent again I believe and fixed whatever was wrong, something about a burst blood vessel in the very back of the sinuses near the brain stem. So then they wanted to keep me in the hospital for 48 hours to make sure it was fixed, I took tea the next morning. It was an amazing pain to deal with mentally and physically. So I guess I might be lucky, but I had two serious surgeries in a 12 hour time frame and had taken tea like normal until I went to bed the night before. Just stating my experience not giving advice and everyone is different, but maybe my story can help keep some of the fear at bay. This was in Nov of last year.

Wow that's scary, so glad they didn't brush it off and say its normal! I've had two sinus surgeries where I was put under general anesthesia which includes fent, no problems, both times did kratom up to day before. Both surgeries were unsuccessful in curing a blocked sinus so now need a third diff procedure. I'm not at all worried about it. I also take a small dose of xanax every night. I told the anesthesist and they weren't concerned at all.
