yerba mate recs
Which brand is the most hard hitting? Should I be buying loose leaf, canned/bottled? What should I expect, stimulation vs relaxation? Kratom synergy?
Yoteas is mentioned by name by a few members.
Smoked product adds more kick, or just flavoring?
I drank part of a bottle years ago and remembered I didn't like it, but I can't recall the taste or effect. Wanna branch out and try again.

Get yourself a proper bombilla and gourd and make it the OG way. It’s so good and gives such a good caffeine buzz to coffee. I get the guayaki loose leaf bag at Whole Foods. The smoked ones have carcinogens though so I don’t do those

Synergizes very well with kratom esp greens. More stimulation than regular green teas but slightly less stimulation than coffee with no jitters. I bought 4 oz from yoteas and one of those cups with a metal strainer. At 1 teapsoon per cup, 4oz should last you a while.IndelibleDotInk wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 9:12 am Which brand is the most hard hitting? Should I be buying loose leaf, canned/bottled? I still love coffee with yellows and heavy reds.

Re: yerba mate recs
So I started off with two brands, the yellow can with a bajillion flavors - tasted like sweetened green or grey tea... and that's basically all it was, liquid sugar with mild flavor.
This made me realize that the stuff I tried previously was, in fact, kombucha. Which was gross...perhaps I could like it if it gave good effects and I forced myself to drink it a lot. I can tolerate my kratom in a bit ofo water if I have to.But my takeaway was it was vinegar with some extra grossness added to it. Not that I dislike vinegar, but drinking it in even a shot's worth is nasty.
There is another brand from the grocery store of yerba mate, I am expecting the same, just gonna drink em cause they're not terrible. The sugar is of no worry as I am jumping back onto keto after I drink these and eat some delicious crossants we got from the food bank. [Baked fresh from Safeway, really excellent, the large size.]
I will go ahead and order some actual tea leaves, crushed or powdered however is most recommended and available. Yoteas was suggested. Thanks for that rec. Will conduct taste and effect trials.

Yerba mate, also known as mate, is an herbal tea. It's a traditional drink in Latin and South America. It's made by steeping dried leaves from the yerba mate plant in hot water. Yerba mate can be served cold or hot. Like black or green tea, it has caffeine, which can make you feel more alert and focused.GreenAnimal wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 9:22 am I realize I technically could just google this, but heck this is a forum so let’s chat. What is yerba mate exactly?

Re: yerba mate recs
So I was reading about prep for my herba mate (purchased from Yoteas) and part of the instructions I found researching was keep your water from boiling, 160-180F was suggested to avoid the release from tannins. I did around 160F and man, it tasted like pure bitterness. Next time I make a pot, i will stay in the 140F area. Taste was nice aside from bitter, grasssy but not as much as guayusa. Very pleasant once I dumped some cream in it, which covered the bitterness.
The leaf material can be used for several rounds of steeping, each with a different overall taste. Haven't done this yet, but will try when I feel like I need a few batches of tea.
The feeling is energetic, cheerful, and non-jittery, like a nice green kratom. I def recommend, but implore you to keep water temp LOW as a lowrider.

I do 170 and it tastes fine to me, no bitterness. I put a little bit of honey in it to add some sweetness.IndelibleDotInk wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 8:16 pm So I was reading about prep for my herba mate (purchased from Yoteas) and part of the instructions I found researching was keep your water from boiling, 160-180F was suggested to avoid the release from tannins.
