Kratom Wins Every time. For those who take kratom for pain management or for opioid use disorder. Always ask yourself this. Were you happier and healthier on Kratom or on meds. I can attest that I am a much happier person with a much more balanced life on Kratom. In fact I don't know one opiate addict who has a great life and is happy. Not one.. Always remember the meds cause much more pain and suffering than any momentary relief.

Yep, no question about it. I stopped taking opioids and have been off of them for fifteen months now, all due to kratom.

I'm a *little* worried because due to my upcoming surgery they have already prescribed me fairly heavy (since I was so used to them) stuff to take. I'm going to TRY and use kratom but I may have to take the damn real thing for at least the first two weeks (the first two weeks are the worst - when I had my left knee done three years ago I basically wanted to die and only opioids kept me from feeling like following through - after that it was fairly easy to wean myself off of them). I'll have to see, because they are sending me home with this pain thingee that provides a lot of relief for the first five days.

But I *promise* after those two weeks I'll be back on my kratom, if not sooner (right now I'm not taking anything for the next three days until surgery - I do miss my morning dose, for sure, but having tapered off the previous week down to one dose I'm okay. Tonight will be the big test as I haven't slept without kratom for a long time).

There's nothing wrong with using opioids post-surgery. In fact, it's crucial that you manage post-surgical pain BEFORE it becomes a problem, or it becomes orders of magnitude more difficult (and painful) playing catch-up.

I'll also add, having just had my 2nd hip replacement at the end of November, that managing day to day aches and pains with kratom is a great - and feasible - thing to do. But there are levels of pain for which kratom is insufficient. After my surgery last year I got off of the Oxy and back onto kratom as soon as I could, and with no problems whatsoever. But it WASN'T the day after the surgery.

They did say in class not to let the pain get out of hand. This will be a new experience for me in that the last knee surgery I first got them to release me WAY too soon (the day after my surgery - I just wanted out of the hospital when they wanted me in) and after they disconnected me from the morphine drip and I got home I thought I'd die.

THIS time I will be going home (that day) with a pump that is supposed to reduce the pain at least 80% or so. Now - honestly, having lived with 100% of the post-surgical pain I think I can manage this just fine without much help. But the pump only lasts five days. In any case I'll make sure the pain stays reasonable with opioids (they prescribed oxy at 10mg but I also have 5mg of that at home and around 90 500mg Vicodin pills from previous usage). I'd just like to not take much, because I know if I can get through the first two weeks I'll be fine.

I can't wait until this knee is fixed, though - it was the main reason I was taking kratom (while I'm old and have pains elsewhere the knee is the one that kept me from sleeping let alone walking without bad pain. So in three or four weeks I expect to be taking kratom only rarely, perhaps only once a day. We'll see).
