Everyone needs to manage their body their own way.

For me, quitting is just... quitting. I'm having surgery in a week so for the last week I just took one dose a day (at night, when I need it most), cutting out the three I was taking previously. This week I'll take none. I notice no differences EXCEPT more pain (the reason I take it in the first place).

I've done this a number of times - usually I'm off for a couple of weeks - and I can stay on it for many months and still do this. However, if I had NEVER taken such breaks perhaps I'd also have major troubles. So that's also something to consider for folks who take kratom daily (take those breaks so you can stop if you want).

But as I said, everyone is different. I've also got a very non-addictive personality - I can do something for many, many years and then just stop, cold turkey (my wife once said I could NEVER stop drinking soda and one day I just stopped my constant soda habit. I've never gone back in the last decade. I also completely stopped alcohol despite drinking a LOT, which is why I stopped in the first place. Have no real desire to have any at all). For many people the "addiction" is so deep psychologically they need *something* to get them over it, so I wish you the greatest luck in getting there (I also might add that if kratom, which is about as non-addictive as any substance can be, causes you this issue you are far better off not taking it).

Hang in there.

Good luck, FartBlaster (LOL)!

You do you, but also forgive yourself if quitting both nicotine and kratom at the same time is too much. Go slow and keep the faith!

Except that kratom doesn't trigger the opioid sensors that trigger addiction - not to say it isn't psychologically addicting, but it's very clearly NOT physically addicting (which is why no matter how hard they try they aren't able to get it banned).

So unless you were doing OTHER drugs it's doubtful that's what folks were observing (and from how you describe your life it does seem like you might have been other things as well - not judging, just saying).

But you do you - again, I'll pray for your success. Life is so very short we should NOT have to live it in any sort of pain, emotional or physical.

I'd be interested to read about this. Do you have a source you can share?

Good luck man, be careful with the subs…not needed for Kratom WD’s imo. Since you’ve already taken them I wouldn’t redose.

Lyrica works great for me when I take a break but I have a script for that…

Lots of sources but the first that comes to mind is the TV show "Hamilton's Pharmacopeia", Season 2, episode 3, where they even run some interesting brain scans to show this. It's an episode worth seeing for a whole lot of reasons - got me started on my kratom journey which has helped me SO much I will never be without it.

But also just read (from the WHO, of all people) the transcripts where they tried to ban it - it showed clearly it does not hit those receptors (which killed their argument). Now, some folks say "well, tobacco is addictive and hasn't been banned" and that IS correct, but tobacco has HUGE money behind it, and a long history of use. Trust me, if kratom was at all dangerous it would have been declared illegal a decade or more ago - they've tried repeatedly and the science just doesn't support it (so so far the science wins - but that's not always the case).

As the poster above says, dependency is a different ballgame. I know one gal who was totally dependent on Coca Cola - had to drink two liters a day every single day or her life. The drink itself wasn't "addicting" but she became dependent on it. Some folks just have this kind of personality (it's one reason why ex-alcoholics are nearly ALWAYS chain smokers - I've never met one who wasn't during my consoling days. They trade one dependency for another).

Kratom is 100% physically addictive I've took enough t breaks to know its physically addictive. The wd is not nearly as bad as actual opiates though but you do become physically dependent on the alkaloids and it does affect your opiate receptors. The main reason I believe it's not federally banned is it does not affect your cognitive abilities or motor skills

That has literally nothing to do with it.

Alcohol is legal federally and you can get a weird form of ego death on that shit. It's a dark and grimy one, but it is an ego death.

FartBlaster wrote: Thu Mar 02, 2023 4:08 am So I'm in a position where I've chosen to quit I don't blame anyone for using kratom , in fact I think it's a fantastic resource and should absolutely be legal. Certain things in my life have lined up to where my best option is to go off kratom for now, not necessarily forever. I'm going to journal my experiences here. Keep in mind I have been prescribed drugs to make this easier one of which I imagine most of you aren't familiar with yet it is oh so helpful. So no wean cold turkey. Tonight I took a little over 2mg of subutex and 80 MG of Baclofen. Now Baclofen is a very weird drug but for this purpose it obliterates RLS and helps my mood as well as keeping me from feeling fatigued and it also helps with any anxiety I have. Subtex ìs for the first 3 days the idea is to make this as pain free as possible and minimize any WD. Consider I've been a daily kratom user 25g a day for about 6 maybe 7 years. I'm feeling quite optimistic! I'm quitting smoking at the same time I'll be out of cigarettes by the time I go to sleep and I'm not buying more. I wholeheartedly believe my mindset thru this will be crucial.
I would advise against getting off kratom with something that is much more addictive wd from subs and baclofen is far far far worse then kratom. I would suggest clonidine which is a non addictive blood pressure prescription. The best way to stop imo is just take kratom at night so you can sleep and in a few days you won't need to take anything to sleep and you will start to feel better. Kratom is very weak and does not stay in your system. But the other drugs you are talking about are made to be addictive the drug companies want you on that stuff for the rest of your life. But good luck

I was thinking that, too. Western medicine at it's best.

The old "crystal meth to quit coffee" routine.

I wish you luck, fartie, but I know you'll realize that kratom is pretty innocuous in general and not much of a problem, and more than likely you'll notice how important it is to things that have nothing to do with kratom, your immune system, for example.

DO NOT LET DRUGS TRICK YOU INTO A RELAPSE AND IF THIS EVEN STARTS TO LOOK LIKE AN ISSUE, DROP THE EXPERIMENT AND START KRATOM AGAIN.

I don't know if you have a drug issue, but this needs to be said because ones brain can be really crafty, even against ITSELF.. So weird, right?

Just keep it on the back burner if it applies. Fair enough?

Don't get the wrong idea, I completely agree with this. I quit iv heroin using the "punishment" method, one I pioneered. A bottle of Robitussin DM capsules (more often Walmart brand) every day for almost a year. It worked. Would it work for you? No clue. Is it a good idea? Not really, but it has a 100% success rate.

Anyone quitting tobacco & kratom at the same time is far braver than me, but it does make sense. A medicine I never see mentioned for wd from tobacco, alcohol, & opiates is clonidine & it works quite well. It's not an opiate nor even related, is used to treat panic disorder, RLS, severe anxiety, excessive sweating( I know there's some of you afflicted with this & it works wonders), menstrual cramps, pms hot flashes, insomnia, & high blood pressure. Its main benefit is it isn't in the benzodiazapine group so it doesn't risk ruining your life taking it. It doesn't give you any good feelings at all. You have to taper off for only 3 days. You can't take it if you also take beta blockers.

Anyway... so I wish you well in your endeavor. I do know how difficult it is.
