I especially like watching people make stuff. My favorites tend to be people that are self-taught, have an eye for perfection, but whose videos are not just commercials for sponsors' products.
Does anyone else go to YouTube for this? I'm also subscribed to r/ArtisanVideos on Reddit -- and that's a fantastic place to start -- but right now I'm really digging these three channels on YouTube:
Luke Towan - railroad hobbyist who builds dioramas that insanely realistic. I could watch this guy for hours, and occasionally do. This is the video that got me started. Someone posted a speeded-up gif of this video to Reddit and that was all she wrote, heh.
Marty's Matchbox Makeovers - rehabs the great Matchbox toy vehicles from the 60s. Here's his most recent, a double decker Matchbox bus from 1965.
Mtmwood - makes a number of things, but mostly he makes intricately detailed end-grain cutting boards from exotic woods, like this “3D” design board. I've been watching this guy's videos for a while and they're amazing. He doesn’t often speak, but if you want to understand what he’s saying you’ll need the subtitles because it’s all in Russian. With or without they’re great: a true craftsman at work.
So what are yours? I know I’m not the only one chillin with YouTube.
