Any hobbies suggestions?

Post by spartabotto2 »

I'm looking to take a tolly break(or at least slowdown) the holidays have kicked my ass and I've been dosing quite a bit more then usual. I'm also planning on lowering my alcohol intake, which is a lot. Kratom has cut it down quite a bit, but I got to a comfortable point where I drank and took kratom after work together, which turned into my days off together. So if anyone has any hobbies they'd like to suggest for me to try for a few days, I'd greatly appreciate it.

What makes you happy, serene and the time pass by? What do you like doing?
Hobbies often come when people see a facet of something they already like and pursue it further, like fisherman tying flies or bikers doing leather work.

Learn another language. With the internet today, it's entirely possible to learn another language (lessons and resources are extremely cheap, if not outright free) and also easily connect with native speakers of that language. Plus all the movies, music, podcasts, and television shows in your chosen language can be found online.

I highly recommend it. Learning another language is an extremely rewarding experience that also gives you a lifelong skill that looks amazing on a resume.

I've always wanted to learn sign language. I can barely speak English, so I don't think I'd do too well in another spoken language. Lol. I'll definitely give that a thought. Thanks, it would have never occurred to me.

Well seems kind of broad could you narrow your interests down a bit... past and present?
Of course what would you like to learn and become interested in as well!

Are you creative/ would you consider yourself artistic?
Drawing, painting, building things even a puzzle...

How about your love for music and how much would you rate your indulgence/ desire toward music? Could you see yourself learning a few notes nothing crazy, or how to hold the violin properly, or how to play your favorite song on a bass or acoustic guitar...

Maybe if you’re looking for something a bit simpler learn how to play cribbage or if you already know practice your counting? Lol may sound silly but not everyone is quick with counting.

The list goes on and on my friend!

Good luck.

I am the same I need to find more to do thats productive and I’ve noticed myself reading a lot more lately. I just wish I would get off social media more especially if its not anything in particular like this site or reddit these have a purpose for me of course. Others get in the way and I become impatient when I pick up a book.

Oh and before (when i drank every night andtoo much as well) I would watch a lot of Netflix and or play a lot of video games. Nothing really wrong with eithrr of those but it wasn’t what I wanted to really do especially doing it all the time!
Oh and some others I would say just stay busy and go out that helped me when I actually took a break from drinking. Idk just saying but maybe go ice skating just to grt out of the house or go for a 30 min jog / walk and go to a different place 4 times a week just to stay out of the same places and frame of mind that reminds you of when you would drink.
Just my two cents!

Good luck!

I’m an introvert myself and I have social anxiety.

I love being alone but I also am alone too much.

I’m planning on signing up for a course a bit late now for spring? But will be for the summer
1. To get out of the house

2. Learn something stimulate thy mind!

3. Interact with others about what all of u enjoy like idk... Psychology, or Literature, maybe Botany 101? Lol who knows!

Right now I want to learn so much and I have my good and bad days.
I like to read and read mostly about Kratom and infinite aspects of it but yeah keep focused on something important and shit you may be good at poetry idk... who knows!

Well I applaud your sign language idea and so do millions of sign users I'm sure.
I started out in nuerology and we had to be able to cyber and sign to enough extent that we could respond without having to wait on a pro to get there.
Interpreters do get neat opportunities....small groups that need you too, not the giddy masses.
You will also likely be very welcome as a volunteer in places as any kind of interpreter - its a very disheartening thing when the person you need to know something can't understand you.

You should look into the app MeetUp or something like that. It’s basically a bunch of people sending invites to do things with others, meet new people. Highly recommend

Seriously. I've got so many hobbies it's ridiculous it's probably kept me from being dedicated to any 1 thing. Computer Programmer by trade just because it paid good.. (And also a fun hobby!) But I play guitar and keys in bands, and, had way over 5000 comic books at one time :geek:

See if there are any free poker tournaments in your area. My local company was called Go All In Inc, and they held tournaments at bars and restaurants all over town every week. They also do large tournaments with a prize of a seat at World Series poker. I made a lot of great friends doing that.

someone mentioned meetup.com

it's the total bomb (the good bomb, the bomb diggity, not a dud bomb)!

my dog and i joined several diff hiking groups and did hundreds of hikes in about three years, made cool friends of all ages, got really fit.

i also joined some language groups aka language exchanges, and picked up basic words and cultural info in korean, japanese, and spanish. We'd get together to practice and go out to eat at diff restos.

we also did a ton of other groups, like scifi nerd groups, but hiking and language groups were the best. you meet the neatest and weirdest people.

I really love going to the beach. Now I understand not everyone can easily get to a beach, but living near one, its my favorite place. Even when its not so warm outside. There's something about the ocean that's so serene and calming. Just listening to the sounds and the smell in the air .I could sit there for hours. I hope everyone will get to enjoy some time by the water soon!

I've been practicing fasting for the past year and am going into longer fasting breaks (for weight but also, haven't been taking kratom as much because I feel like, as the saying is for acid: "when you get the message, hang up the phone.") Still going to have kratom but maybe like every two weeks rather than 3-5 times a week.

Anyway, to help me with my goal, I would get embroidery thread and make a bracelet for every 24 hours I made it. Took me about an hour and kept my mind occupied and I had something to show for it at the end. It did he to the point where I got busy and didn't do bracelets for the last seven fasts I did.

But bracelets are cool and I even sewed beads onto them or did different colors. And then on new year's Eve I cut them off, to start fresh this year.

But this time, I'm just setting a monthly goal and making one bracelet a month but it will be more detailed and wider.

Otherwise, hot process soap making is pretty easy but it costs maybe $60-80 to start or cheaper if you can find a crock pot and immersion blender at a thrift shop.

You need distilled water, a glass jar, the crock pot and immersion blender, 100% lye (Amazon or Ace hardware), and oil (coconut oil is cheap and easy to start with.) You can get some silicone molds from Michael's, or cobble something together from wood and line it with wax paper. Then colorants and scents are potential costs but you don't need those initially.

Also tarot is a fun cheap hobby to get into. Plus helps with introspection when you're trying to curb bad habits.
