Twofer: Notification when a post is made & shoutbox

I'll keep this short and simple... or try to.. I tend to be a bit prolific when I start writing-- and this WMD isn't helping

It would be nice to have a notification when a post is made after you've interacted with a post; I keep having to go to my profile and click on "My Posts" then open up each one to see if there's been any more activity. It would be a welcomed addition for there to be an unobtrusive notice somewhere on the forum to let you know that there's been further activity on a post. I believe I have a post or two "Watched", but I haven't seen any notifications for replies on them either despite that.

Also, it would be pretty cool to have a shoutbox on the front page so that online users can interact real-time and "shoot the shit". I understand if this is a difficult one to moderate considering the fluidity of a shoutbox and not being able to constantly have someone watching to ensure nothing is posted against the rules (Talk of payment options comes to mind). However, I think a lot of members would enjoy a place where they can communicate about off-topic things without it being specifically contained to a certain subject or thread.

There is a quick easy way to check new posts in general. When you are on the main index page, above the lists of forums, there is a link text that says "view new posts". Click on it and It will show all the new posts. Give it a try, i think that's what you're looking for. Here's a quick link: search.php?search_id=newposts

Oh, that is actually very convenient. I'm not sure how I didn't see that lol. It's not exactly the same thing that I was asking for, but it is definitely a lot easier than opening each individual post to check.

When I open the page up, I go to 'view unread posts' first. Everything I haven't read yet will be there.

There is also a ‘subscribe to topic’ feature at the bottom of each thread. It’s useful when you want to keep track of any particular discussion. Additionally, there is an option in your user settings to be alerted when you get a reply. It’s turned off by default.

For anyone trying to find it: User Control Panel > Overview-Board Preferences > Edit Global Settings-Edit Posting Default > "Notify me upon replies by default"
